Aloha e,
It's August and we are in the midst of a hotly contested race for President and the control of both houses of Congress. I’m reminded of the history of political action on the part of the union movement.
AQ was active as a volunteer for pro-labor candidates from the time she was a student. In 1944, with the formal founding of the ILWU in Hawai‘i and the naming of Jack Hall as its director the union developed an extensive and highly effective political action apparatus.
While I’ve never been good at predicting election outcomes, I can say with certainty that our documentary, The Struggle Never Ends, will have its television premiere on PBS Hawai‘i on October 17 at 8:30 PM on PBS Hawaiʻi Presents. The documentary will be repeated on Sunday, October 20 at 1:00 PM.
Please ask your family, friends, neighbors and coworkers to save that date and join the audience for a look at AQ’s life and times and Hawaii’s almost forgotten working class history!
Don’t forget that each month we share excerpts from our extensive moving image archive: www.laborhistoryhawaii.org.
